From here the band performed on stages across the country appearing at Leicester Summer Sundae festival and Manchester’s ITC showcasing their early less aggressive sound. Other highlights in 2006 were DJUNE supporting ‘The Kooks’ during their Seaside Tour and playing in venues such as Manchester’s Academy 3 and Peterborough’s Met Lounge.
2007 saw the beginning of DJUNE’s change in direction towards a hard-hitting ‘rock outfit’ as opposed to the original softer musical approach. More songs were recorded and DJUNE set about hitting the cities in an attempt to further raise their profile. A few breaks came along that year in the shape of a support slot with the ‘Pigeon Detectives’ and being given the opportunity to be sole support for ‘Athlete’ on the first date of their UK tour.
Later in 2007 DJUNE were fortunate to be introduced to producer ‘George Atkins’ who’s CV includes artists the likes of Keith, Lilly Allen and Buen Chico to name a few. His idea of where he felt the band could go in terms of direction struck a chord with Ash. After recording with George at Manchester’s Blueprint Studios DJUNE set about developing their entire back catalogue of songs, to suit the aggressive nature of their newly acquired sound. For the most part of early 2008 DJUNE have been busy recording & rehearsing new material in readiness for delivering a ‘killer’ live show.
Greg has been teaching for the last 3 years and has become a strong member of the team working closely with bands to help develop their repertoire and performance skills.
Greg is part of a successful band called DJUNE.
DJUNE are:
Ash Wilson – Lead Vocals / Guitar
Phil Wilson – Drums/ backing Vocals
Greg Smith – Bass
Rob Patchett – Guitar.
Ash, Phil and Greg were in a ‘Blues’ Band called THE MELT that formed in 2000. During 2006 Ash wrote some songs that didn’t fit the genre of that band, as a result these songs were then recorded independently at Blue Water Studios, with producer Wayne Proctor at the helm. It was clear after the ‘demo’ was recorded that in order to reproduce the recorded versions ‘live’ another guitar player was needed, so at the end of May 2006 Rob Patchett joined the band and DJUNE was formed.
